Question of the Month

What is out of the box when you start thinking your next project?

January 18th Agenda

This is the start of a new year for all Mavericks; let’s celebrate that by attending as many meetings as you can. I believe that the more creative minds come together, the more exciting things that will happen. So make it a habit to be at the Mavericks meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month for the great programs that have been planned. We start this year with a guest speaker, so there to welcome her.

Introductions                        Group 5 min.

Program:                               Guest Speaker:  Chris Lynn Kirsch

I have known Chris, attended her lectures, and taken her classes for many years.  She has written two books on her Repliqué Quilts technique and has authored another book that will out soon.  She is a member of the Milwaukee Art Quilters.  Chris became my model and mentor when I started teaching before coming to Arizona.  I am so pleased that she is visiting us and sharing her love of designing art quilts.

A Challenged Mind Chris enjoys a good challenge and the “brain play” it encourages.  On January 18, she will take us on a journey through her inspirations, crazy side trips and fascinating collection of quilts that have resulted. To learn more about Chris and her quilts, go to her web site at www.chrisquilts.net and her blog at www.clkquilt.wordpress.com Check out her blog for December 4, 2011 to learn about her collaboration with my daughter (the playwright), Gwendolyn Rice. - Evelyn Link

Charity Is a Good Thing

At Christmas, Mavericks gave the quilts they made to the Sojourner Center. This is what is at the heart of quilting groups, women helping women while helping themselves. Way to go everybody!

We talked about continuing to make and do for the Sojourner’s Center.

Sojourner Center has a Gift giving program called the “ Circle of Hope”. E-mail Jayne Polizzi at jpolizzi@sojournercenter.org for information on how to help.

Sojourner Center needs donations of women’s grooming items – should be new

How do you become a member of Mavericks, a chapter of the Arizona Quilters Guild? New chapter members (and those who renew chapter dues AFTER the January meeting each year), pay $15 in chapter dues. On-time renewals are $10 with renewals for the following year accepted beginning in October every year. Payment must be made by check or money order, with those instruments made payable to Main St. Mavericks. When joining or renewing, please provide full contact information, including name, mailing address, email address, and phone number(s). The chapter’s financial year runs on a calendar year. You can bring your payment to a meeting or mail it to Diane Howell at her address on our roster. We are always happy to add new members!

Chapter members also must join the Arizona Quilters Guild. New members (and renewals received after June 1) are $30. On-time renewals are $25. To get started, download the guild’s membership form from its website, azquiltersguild.org, complete it and mail the form with your check to Arizona Quilters Guild at the address on the form. The guild’s financial year runs on a July 1-June 30 fiscal year. The June 1 renewal deadline is to allow paperwork to be completed by a volunteer staff before the year closes on June 30.
