Charity Is a Good Thing

Over the last few months, we have had two sewing days for quilts for the Sojourner Center and a few people have been making quilts at home. Please bring any quilts you have finish for this project to the October meeting.  Pam is going to arrange a delivery time for sometime before Christmas. More information about the delivery will be in the next newsletter. We have put together around 30 quilts for the center. This is what is at the heart of quilting groups, women helping women while helping themselves. Way to go everybody!

We talked about continuing to make and do for the Sojourner’s Center.

Sojourner Center has a Gift giving program called the “ Circle of Hope”. E-mail Jayne Polizzi at jpolizzi@sojournercenter.org for information on how to help. Email Pam Stephenson and have her send you an update on our quilt making for

Sojourner Center

Sojourner Center needs donations of women’s grooming items – should be new

What is happening?

A new Quilting program is on PBS called “ Why Quilts?” It is on Wednesdays at 2PM

Linda McCurry:

Please come out and support fiber art! I would be so honored to see you at one of the First Friday dates. December 2nd from 6-10 is the next one. The show “It Ain’t Necessarily Sewn” is at the Willo North Gallery.  I was very honored when curator Robert Pela asked me to show my work with Gary Paterson. Gary’s paintings are amazingly quilt-like and amazing tributes to classic works by famous artists. You also might remember Christy Puetz’s work from her presentation this spring at Mavericks. Willo North is a lovely space at 2811 N 7th Ave. I hope you’ll come! Kindest regards and hugs,

Linda

Fiber connection show:

The Fiber Connection show at the First American Baptist Church located at 7025 E. Osborne, Scottsdale. Show will be from November1 through the 28th. View the show on Sunday services or on November 11th in the evening. Contact Barb Glenn – aglenn9475@aol.com or Judy Harmony- jahgv@cox.net for more information. The Show is a smashing success. Beautiful work dances across the walls of this gallery space. It even amazed a couple of teenaged children what could be done with fibers and color.

Barb Wills is showing some of her things at Van Gogh’s Ear in Prescott.

We have several people showing at the two Arizona show at Sky Harbor Airport next year.

I need members to email me what is happening with your art and though your efforts. Please contact me at cat2teach@cox.net with your news so it can be included in the newsletter. My note taking isn’t what it used to be, so if you gave me information at the Mavericks meeting and I didn’t include it - I am sorry.

Treasurer’s Report

November 2011

As of Nov. 11, 2011, our treasury stands at $2,686.16. Both checks for reimbursibles for the ice cream social have now cleared, and our only anticipated expense for the remainder of the calendar year is 2012.

Dues News

How do you become a member of Mavericks, a chapter of the Arizona Quilters Guild? New chapter members (and those who renew chapter dues AFTER the January meeting each year), pay $15 in chapter dues. On-time renewals are $10 with renewals for the following year accepted beginning in October every year. Payment must be made by check or money order, with those instruments made payable to Main St. Mavericks. When joining or renewing, please provide full contact information, including name, mailing address, email address, and phone number(s). The chapter’s financial year runs on a calendar year. You can bring your payment to a meeting or mail it to Diane Howell at her address on our roster. We are always happy to add new members!

Chapter members also must join the Arizona Quilters Guild. New members (and renewals received after June 1) are $30. On-time renewals are $25. To get started, download the guild’s membership form from its website, azquiltersguild.org, complete it and mail the form with your check to Arizona Quilters Guild at the address on the form. The guild’s financial year runs on a July 1-June 30 fiscal year. The June 1 renewal deadline is to allow paperwork to be completed by a volunteer staff before the year closes on June 30. AQG renewals are accepted every year beginning in April; please make sure your renewals arrive no earlier than April so they are recorded for the proper membership year. NOTE: Any AQG dues left with the Mavericks treasurer must be accompanied by a COMPLETED AQG membership form.

Both chapter and state dues are a set price; neither are prorated throughout the year. Also, please do not mail any correspondence to the Mavericks meeting location; the venue has no way to process such letters.
